Over the 97th percentile...

I had an ultrasound today to check the location of my placenta that had been marginally too low. So they sent me to the fetal/maternal specialists here in New Haven for a check. While the baby looks good and there are no problems with my placenta, the baby is measuring over the 97th percentile for size!! The technician about halfway through said that this is a big baby! I asked how big, and she said we'd have to wait until all the measurements were done. When she finished and calculated his size she said he is measuring over the 97th percentile! Every measurement she did put the baby at at least a 35 week size (that's at least 3 weeks big). She did say he's proportional-- just big all over! The bummer is that we didn't get any pictures...they were focused on measurements today.

The doctor came into check things out and agreed that the baby looks healthy, but is measuring big. He wants me to come back in 4 weeks to measure the baby again. If the baby continues to grow at the same rate the doctor did say there is an increased likelihood that I may need a c-section, especially if the baby is looking like he'll be over 10 pounds (5000g). So we scheduled our next ultrasound for February 16th, and we'll see how things progress!

  1. Yeah for BIG boys! Big and Healthy! If you have to push him out all that matters is the size of his head. So here's hoping for a smaller melon!
