This morning I had my ultrasound at the Maternal Fetal Medicine office. It went well! The technician first wanted to determine which was baby A and which was baby B. This proved to be difficult because they are pretty much at the same level and right next to each other. After consulting with a doctor, it was decided that Twin A is on my right and Twin B is on my left. Then they were able to measure, check the heart beats and take some pictures! Both twins are looking good and moving quite a bit--I think it was Twin B who was really squirming all around and making it difficult to measure! Again we are rejoicing that the babies appear to be healthy and active! I am 11 weeks pregnant today, and both babies measured at 11weeks 4 days--so all looks good!
The doctor confirmed that there are two placentas and two sacs, which likely means they are fraternal, but there is a possibility they are identical. If one is a girl and one is a boy (which we will find out in about 2 months) we will know for sure they are fraternal, but if they are the same gender we'll have to wait until they are born to find out for sure. We were told today that our due date was November 4th, but that that the average pregnancy for twins is about 36 weeks--so they will most likely be born some time in October.
Here are some of the pictures we were given today:
