August Events

August went by quickly! We had lots of different adventures...

Hudson and I went to visit a petting zoo at a local park. Hudson loved seeing the goats, chickens & ponies!

Hudson decided to lift weights after dinner!

Jason and I had planned to get away for a weekend for our anniversary, but our childcare fell through so Hudson came with us. We turned it into a nice family getaway. We stayed at a hotel in Greenwich, CT and had a nice weekend.
The hotel was beautiful--and we enjoyed it even more knowing what a good deal we got on Priceline.

Playing with his helicopter at McDonald's after an early wake up with the hotel's fire alarm system.

Checking out the waterfalls in the hotel lobby.

Enjoying the hotel pool.

Having a pickle at a New York Style deli.

When we returned home from our getaway we decided to move Hudson to his big boy bed. After a few days of practicing for nap, he was able to fall asleep and has slept on his bed ever since!

His first night on the bed.

Hudson likes to try to climb the stairs like a "big boy"--he's still much faster crawling.

Hudson enjoyed seeing our friend Michelle's cats several times this month. He scared the cats, but loved seeing them!
Using Mommy's growing belly as an arm rest.

Loving reading with his Daddy.

Laughing while skyping with Grandma.

Hudson has a new interest in rolling things off of chairs & tables--especially his crayons!
With a new interest in coloring we got him a new set of 8 crayons!
Hudson has taken to plugging his ears at random times...

Hudson was diagnosed with another double ear infection this month. Unfortunately the first round didn't clear it up and he had to go on the stronger version. We hope that this clears the infection up!

We noticed that Hudson can cross his pinky finger under his ring finger!

Reading with Daddy before bed.
On August 28th we prepared for the landfall of Hurricane Irene. Thankfully we personally didn't have any damage for flooding to deal with. We did lose power for 4 days, but still had hot water and the ability to use our gas stovetop. We also had good friends who let us visit them during the days to charge my phone, refrigerate Hudson's medicine, and do some laundry. The biggest problem we had was that Hudson dropped a heavy metal water bottle on his big toe right as the storm was supposed to be the worst. We couldn't get him to stop crying for at least 30 minutes, so we know he must have really been hurting. Thankfully we finally were able to get him to calm down when Jason started singing and acting out the Sound of Music songs! =) Hudson limped around for a few days, but is pretty much back to normal.
Here's Hudson still quite upset about his toe.

The blackened toenail.

Our good friends stopped over to check on us after the hurricane and Hudson loved seeing Ben. Hudson asked Ben to hold him!
On a walk in a nearby neighborhood we saw several trees that blew down.

Diagonally across our street we had some huge trees blown down and crushed a few cars.

Checking out the damage

A tree on our block lost its top

This tree fell down behind our house. Thankfully it fell in the other trees and not towards our house or the back neighbors.
While we had some good wind, the recycling bins stayed put...
August ended on a stormy note with Irene, but we are extremely grateful that we didn't suffer any damage or flooding. There are many people still in Connecticut dealing with serious clean up and loss. We praise God for taking good care of us.
